FUNGI: Anarchist Designers
Fungi – better known as moulds or mushrooms – satisfy many human needs. We have long eaten mushrooms, for example, and used penicillin to fight bacteria. Providing a counterbalance to this human-centred approach is FUNGI: Anarchist Designers presents fungi as independent organisms that thrive in unique, multi-species environments and in the ruins of capitalism.
Until 6 February 2027
Another Island
With Another Island, researcher and audiovisual artist Janilda Bartolomeu presents a film installation that depicts the dreams of the Cape Verdean diaspora.

Future Makers!
Calling all children: come and create the future at the Nieuwe Instituut! There’s an exhibition about the future just for you, with lots of things to do and make.
Sonneveld House
Sonneveld House is one of the best-preserved homes in the functionalist Nieuwe Bouwen style. In this museum house, you can see how a well-off Rotterdam family lived in the 1930s.
-1 Digital Lab
Part laboratory, part exhibition space, -1 responds to the urgent need to address critical issues in digital culture, from the rapid advancement of AI and the reemergence of do-it-yourself technology to the inclusion of more diverse and alternative voices in computing.
New Garden
New Garden has been part of the outdoor space of the Nieuwe Instituut since 2015. Ecological management and creating a high level of biodiversity are the starting points for its design.
New Store
With the New Store, Nieuwe Instituut imagines a store where shopping helps the environment instead of harming it. After two New Store pop-up stores in Eindhoven and Milan, you can now step into New Store 3.0 in the foyer of the Nieuwe Instituut.
